Global Mental Health and Cultural Psychiatry Group

The Global Mental Health and Cultural Psychiatry Group is dedicated to maintaining the highest academic and ethical standards in all its endeavours. We recognise the critical importance of addressing ethical considerations in every aspect of our research activities. Central to our mission is the adherence to rigorous ethical standards, ensuring that our research aligns with these principles.

We place a strong emphasis on continuous education. Our research staff regularly undergo training in good clinical practice (GCP), facilitated by national and international experts, to adapt to the latest guidelines and ethical practices.

By cultivating a robust ethical framework, we strive to lead by example in the global research community, advancing knowledge while safeguarding the wellbeing of research participants and respecting cultural sensitivities.

Ethics in Global Research

We are committed to upholding global standards such as the Helsinki Declaration, and International Conference of Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) guidelines, ensuring that our research adheres to the highest ethical and scientific standards

The Four Pillars of Bioethics

Autonomy: An individual's right to make decisions about their own healthcare and body. It emphasises respecting their choice and promoting independence.

Beneficence: Promoting wellbeing and preventing harm for patients. It requires healthcare professionals to act in their patients' best interests.

Nonmaleficence:The obligation to do no harm. It requires avoiding or minimising harm to patients and preventing any potential risks associated with medical interventions or research.

Justice: Fairness and ensuring equal access to healthcare resources and distribution of benefits. It entails treating all individuals equitably and without discrimination.

These principles serve as a guide for healthcare professionals, researchers and policymakers, when faced with ethical dilemmas.
