Dr Ozlem Eylem
Dr. Ozlem Eylem is a dedicated psychologist with a rich background in both clinical practice and research. Raised in Cyprus, she completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Teesside University in the UK and pursued two master’s degrees: one in Psychology with a clinical emphasis at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus, and another in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London.
In 2010, she collaborated with Dr. Dennis Ougrin at King’s College Hospital to develop a self-harm questionnaire, subsequently taking on a Visiting Research Associate role at the Maudsley. Her work spans various NGOs, including Shoreditch Trust NHS and the Netherlands Institute of Higher Education in Turkey, where she coordinated Youth in Action (YiA) projects across Cyprus, Turkey, and the UK.
In 2013, Dr Eylem embarked on a PhD at VU University Amsterdam, researching the effectiveness of an online intervention to reduce suicidal ideation among Turkish migrants in the Netherlands and the UK. She received a full tuition scholarship from the Beck Institute in Philadelphia and a grant from the European Commission for her work.
Currently, she manages a clinical trial testing a culturally adapted e-health intervention for suicidal thoughts among Turkish migrants in the UK and the Netherlands. She continues her research as an honorary researcher at Queen Mary University of London. Her commitment to integrating cultural sensitivity into mental health interventions highlights her invaluable contribution to the global mental health community.
